Social media is an umbrella term for all social media, i.e. all online platforms that allow users to communicate with each other. In essence, social media is used to exchange information with each other.

The first form of social media came into being in 1979, when people could exchange messages via Usenet. This gave rise to all kinds of online discussions about sport and science, for example. You can compare it to a forum.

Nowadays, it is impossible to imagine life without social media. There are various social media channels, of which Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn and YouTube are the best known platforms. Newer social media channels include Tik-Tok, podcasts and Clubhouse.

The use of social media is essential if you want to get more out of a marketing strategy. In particular, using influencers in the right way can create a lot of traffic, because influencers have a large reach and are very influential. Followers often identify with the life of the influencer and there is a lot of engagement, which allows influencers to influence the buying behaviour of their target group.
