What is tiered link building?

Tiered link building is a familiar term for many SEOs. However, tiered link building is often less familiar to the average webmaster. While most are familiar with link building, we see this term much less often. Yet they are two very different things. Tiered link building is a form that has been around for a long time and is also very effective. But what is tiered link building exactly? How do you apply it? And what are the benefits?

Definition of tiered link building

Tiered link building consists of creating backlinks for the already existing backlinks. That sounds complicated. Therefore, an explanation is in order.

Tiered link building is the way in which 'standard' link building is strengthened. By creating backlinks for backlinks you ensure an even higher value of the existing pages. A number of factors are taken into account:

  • The links are only placed on websites with a high domain authority
  • The authority of the page on which it is placed is also taken into account
  • The text must be written naturally. The backlinks will therefore not be placed in a flashy or commercial manner
  • The websites on which the links are placed are relevant for the website to be linked to

So far it is clear. But what is the difference between link building and tiered link building? In normal link building, you place links on other websites. The more, the better. If we look at this form of link building, it is actually outdated. Google has long attached less value to quantity. Nowadays, it is much more important to place qualitative links.

With tiered link building, you use multiple references from your backlinks. The first link building page refers to the second link and so on. This way you create a spider web of quality links to increase the value of your pages.

Benefits of tiered link building

Most webmasters slowly switch from the traditional form of linkbuilding to tiered linkbuilding. Sometimes even completely unconsciously. For those who haven't thought about it yet, it's important to understand the benefits of tiered link building. That this is important for your page is beyond dispute:

  • Save money and still get a higher link value: It takes a lot of money and time to post a blog post on a quality website for each backlink individually. With tiered link building you only need a handful of quality backlinks that you then refer to. Here you can also accept less qualitative backlinks and still obtain a higher link value. This way you save a lot of money and time.
  • Better results: With tiered link building, you achieve proven better results than the traditional form of link building. Moreover, it costs less time, money and effort. That's why it's a good choice for many webmasters to switch to tiered link building or at least to pay more attention to it.
